Den 2.12 hölls val i Ryssland. Det var ett val med litet värde ur ett demokratiskt perspektiv. Oberoende bedömare var eniga i att valet inte utförts på ett sätt som kännetecknar en demokrati.
Med oberoende media och internationella organisationer utestängda från området pågår de kaukasiska krigen fortfarande. Läs gärna boken ”Krigets färger” skriven av soldaten Arkadij Babtjenko. Den visar på en grym verklighet på Europas glömda bakgård. Och den ytterst ansvarige för avdemokratiseringen och kriget i Ryssland, dess president Vladimir Putin utses av Times Magazine till årets person i världen. Vilket hån mot mänsklig anständighet är inte det?
Under hösten har förhandlingar med främst de afrikanska länderna om handelsutbytet med EU genomförts i Lissabon. För första gången någonsin visade de afrikanska ländernas ledare att man inte kunde köpas med ett fett personligt konto i något skatteparadis, och det var på tiden. Den utveckling som gjort dessa länder allt fattigare måste brytas om flykten från misären till Europa skall kunna stoppas. Då får inte utvecklingsländer förvandlas till avstjälpningsplats för vår överskottsproduktion, begagnade varor och farligt avfall. Då måste bidragstänkandet ersättas av samarbete som ger sysselsättning och ett värdigt liv i de afrikanska länderna.
I vårt eget svenska "idyllien" har ansvarkommitténs betänkande blivit till en politisk såpopera. Statsmakten med landshövdingarna i spetsen gör sitt bästa för att stoppa den rörelse för en starkare demokratisk organisation i regionerna som nu har fått fotfäste. Vårt eget etablerade bidragssystem med skatter till Stockholm och allmosor tillbaks garanterar ett beroende i regionerna som centralmakten vill bevara men alltfler politiker vill förändra.
I det sammanhanget är det märkligt att uppleva, att personer som var utpräglade förespråkare för EU-samarbetet med dess överstatliga synsätt, nu är motståndare till den regionala tanken. Det går tydligen även där att sila mygg och svälja kameler.
Hoppen inför 2008, vilka är det? I ett internationellt perspektiv att Bush får avlösning av en regering som får slut på dödandet i Irak. Att ryska mödrar slipper få hem sina söner från kriget i body-bags eller som alkoholiserade nervvrak. Och att förhandlingar får ersätta svärdet i lösningarna av konflikterna i Mellanöstern inklusive Afghanistan/Pakistan.
Livet är fullt av möjligheter och tiden har sin gång.

New Year - and time passes by.
On dec. 02 elections were held in Russia. The elections had little value from a democratic perspective. Independent observers in general were of the opinion that the elections did not meet standards significant to democratic values.
With independent media and international organisations prevented from visiting the area, the Caucasian wars continue. I recommend the reading of the book “Colours of War” written by the soldier Arkadij Babtjenko. He shows the cruel reality on the forgotten backyard of Europe. The ultimate responsible for the war and decline in democracy in Russia, its president Vladimir Putin is by the Times Magazine considered person of the year in the World.
What a mockery to human decency isn’t that?
During the autumn trade negotiations has been going on between EU and the developing countries, mainly African. For the first time in history, the African leaders showed that their opinion was not depending on a fat personal account in some tax paradise. The development which made these countries poorer over years, has to be changed, if the migration from miserable conditions to the riches in Europe to be stopped. This means that developing countries most not be considered as dumping place for excess products and used materials or hazardous waste from EU. Real support and cooperation has to replace contributions in a way to give people a life in dignity in the African countries.
In our own Swedish “Idyll” the committee for regional change of organisation has turned into a political soap opera. The state framed by local governors is doing their most in order to stop the movement for a stronger democratic organisation in the regions now steadily growing stronger. Our own established contributions system, built on high taxis to the government and subsequent contributions back guarantees a dependency of the state that central powers want to maintain, while regional politicians like to change it.
In this connection it is strange to see, that people who some years ago were strong supporters of the EU association with its legal commitments, now turn out being opponents to the regional idea.
It’s possible obviously to”filter mosquitoes and swallow camels” to use a Swedish tale, also in this area.
So which are the hopes for the year 2008? In international perspectives that Bush is replaced by a leader able to stop the killings in Iraq. That Russian mothers are spared from getting their sons home in body-bags or as alcoholic nervous wrecks. And finally that negotiations will replace the sword in trying to solve the conflicts in the Middle East including Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Life is full of opportunities and time passes by.
