Under den gångna helgen (2.3) avgjordes det ryska presidentvalet. Det var knappast någon rysare och har också sågats av världspressens ledarsidor för sin brist på demokratisk förankring. Vad det kommer att innebära på sikt får vi se. Spekulationerna bland politiska och andra experter kommer att fortsätta.
I den andra ringhörnan i det här årets politiska spel finns USA. Mycket kan sägas om det landets brister, men också om dess förtjänster. Det demokratiska förankringsarbete som sker i primärvalen är en enastående manifestation av just detta.
I gårdagens (4.3) primärval blev republikanerna klara med sitt val av presidentkandidat. På den demokratiska sidan fortsätter striden om rösterna mellan uppstickaren Obama och familjedynastiernas Clinton. I 20 års tid har familjerna Bush och Clinton hållit i rodret i världens mäktigaste land. Den trenden är inte bra, och kan i sig vara ett bra skäl till att trenden bryts.
Å andra sidan kan knappast någon av de tre nu kvarstående kandidaterna bli sämre än den nuvarande presidenten.
I hans eftermäle borde stå, "Den president som gav terrorismen vingar".

Elections or appointments?
Last weekend (2.3) the Russian presidential elections were concluded. No surprises around these elections, and editors of the world press have criticized the elections hard for their lack of fundamental democracy. The future will let us know the implications of this. Anyhow, speculations among political and other experts will continue.
In another corner of the political arena we find the elections in USA. Much can be said regarding shortcomings in this large union, but likely so about its credits. The basic political work that goes on openly in the primaries is a remarkable manifestation of this.
With yesterdays (4.3) primaries the republicans are ready with their choice of presidential candidate. On the democratic side on the other hand, the battle for the nominee will go on between the rookie Obama and the Clinton, representing the family dynasties. For 20 years the families Bush and Clinton has been at the helm of the world’s most powerful country. This trend is questionable, and maybe in itself a reason for a change.
On the other hand, no one of the now remaining candidates can possibly be a worse president than the present one.
In his aftermath should be written, “The president giving wings to terrorism”.
