För en knapp månad sedan skrev jag i min blog om maktmissbrukets offer i socialtjänsten, och det låga förtroende bland allmänheten som det maktmissbruket medfört för de som arbetar där.
Där exemplifierade jag med några fall där socialen antingen inget gjort när man bort ingripa, eller ingripit på ett maktfullkomligt sätt i strid mot lagstiftarnas andemening.
Nu toppas rubrikerna än en gång, och skälet är att ett ungt par i Värnamo fråntagits sitt nyfödda barn på ett sätt som skakat både sjukvårdspersonal och en bred allmänhet.
Skälet anges vara att modern, med vietnamesisk bakgrund har en epilepsidiagnos, och fadern inte ständigt kan vara närvarande pga. andra åtaganden. Paret sökte därför på inrådan från sjukvården stöd i hemmet några timmar per dag den första tiden hemma, istället kom socialen, hämtade barnet och tog det till ett fosterhem.
Till saken hör att paret hade flera anhöriga som borde ha tillfrågats om stöd för familjen av de sociala myndigheterna enligt sociallagen. Så skedde inte och barnet får nu endast sporadiskt träffa sina biologiska föräldrar.
De epilepsisjukas förening har naturligt nog reagerat starkt. Om Värnamo socialnämnds handlande blir norm, skulle alla epileptisjuka riskera att mista sina barn. Men så är inte fallet. Istället kan man i beslutet spåra ett obehagligt stänk av den rasism som ständigt sjuder under ytan av det svenska hyckleriet.
Det är bara att hoppas att det nätverk som nu bildas, och den överklagan av omhändertagandebeslutet som kommer, också får framgång.

Racism under cover?
Less than one month ago, in my blog I wrote about victims of the mighty social-care system we have in our country, and the lack of confidence that misuse of power has led to for those working on this field.
In that blog, I gave examples on cases where the social system sometimes done nothing when they should have acted, or acted in a dictatorial way in contrast to the meaning of the law in other cases. Now again we can see headlines of this sort, the reason being a young couple in Varnamo in Sweden, whose child was taken in social care directly after birth and in a way that has upset both health-care people knowing them, and a large public opinion.
The claimed reason for this action is that the mother, with a Vietnamese background, has an epileptic diagnosis, and the father can not always be present to support here due to other commitments. For this reason and after discussions with there nurse, they asked for assistance in the home some time after coming home with the child. Instead the social “police” came to the hospital, took the child and gave it to a foster home.
The young couple has a number of relatives in the area, who should have been contacted for support by the social bureau according to our law. However, this was never done and the child is now, 3 months old only sporadically allowed to meet his parents.
The union for epileptics has reacted very strong. If the handling of this case became a norm, than basically all epileptics should risk loosing the right to their children. But this will never be the case. Instead and most probably, in this case you can trace a sprinkle of the racism always prevalent under the surface of Swedish hypocrisy.
We can only hope that the network now under way to help them, and the appeal to the court that will follow, will lead to succes and the reuniting of this young family.
