Turkish dilemma

Turkish troops are gathering on the Iraqi-Turkish border. This is today’s news. Pretended threats from the other side are ones again used as a reason for the militaries power demonstrations. And this is in essence the Turkish dilemma.
If only this country after the Ataturk days managed to build up also the democratic system, then Turkey could have been a really strong political power today, instead of always being questioned for its policies.
If Turkish leadership accepted a degree of independence for Kurdistan, similar to the peaceful split-up in many ex. Soviet states, then Turkey could have saved lots of suffering and economical resources could have been used for more meaningful purposes than killing people.
So the message to Turkey from the EU and America will hopefully be, send the military back to the barracks. Start talking with people instead of jailing those with different opinions. Accept that Kurdistan has the right to a high degree of independence; this development could be a new landmark for the democratic development in Turkey.
A landmark in the spirit of Kemal Ataturk.
