Förtroende måste förtjänas../Confidence is to be earned!

I dagarna kan vi ta del av en undersökning gjord av den fackliga organisationen SKTF. Det man undersökt är vilket förtroende socialtjänsten har hos allmänheten. Och resultatet är skrämmande.

Bland den vanlige medborgaren har endast 17 % förtroende för socialtjänsten, och bland dem som är dess ”kunder” är förtroendet 28 %. Med andra ord har man ett mycket stort förtroendeproblem att tackla om syftet är att bli en respekterad del av samhällsarbetet.

Anledningen till de dåliga resultaten är knappast enstaka händelser likt Rödeby-fallet eller Vetlanda-reportaget visat i uppdrag granskning. De utgör i sig demonstrationen av det maktmissbruk som många av dem som kommit i kontakt med socialtjänsten vittnar om.

På lokal nivå i Örnsköldsvik kunde vi för ett par år sedan ta del av det omskrivna Anna-fallet som efter föräldrarnas kamp ändå förde till att barn och föräldrar kunde återförenas. Och det var inte det enda. Vid samma tid var drevet på ett lärarpar och deras lilla barn hårt och känslokallt. Där var nätverket runt föräldrarna den starka länk som förhindrade ett felaktigt ingripande.

Förtroende måste förtjänas, i synnerhet när man har med sårbara och utsatta människor att göra. Att närvara och ta ansvar är i det sammanhanget lika viktigt, som att känna när det är dags att ge ”kunderna” förtroende. Den som förmår att balansera de kraven, kommer också att få det förtroende som SKTF eftersträvar.

Confidence is to be earned!

Recently we have had the possibility in the media to take part of a poll by the union SKIFF. The subject for the poll is the confidence for the social security work among the Swedish public. And the result turned out to be a great disappointment.

Among common citizens only 17% expresses confidence for the social security work and among those being there “clients” the confidence is barely 28%. With other words, there is a great lack of confidence in the relation to this part of the public service.

The reason for these poor results is not a matter of single cases giving headlines in the papers. Such headlines demonstrate for sure the misuse many of those being in contact with the social security do witness off.

On a local level in Ornskoldsvik we had our own case named the Anna-case some 2 years ago. In that case the child and the parents could re-unite after 125 months of struggle for their right to be a family. And this case was not the only one. At the same time the hunt was going for a young couple teachers and their little child. Only a very strong network of parents helping the couple prevented an incorrect act of handling.

Confidence is to be earned, even more when dealing with vulnerable persons. To show empathy and act with responsibility is in this respect equally important. So is also to have the intuition to show the “clients” trust at given times. Those who have the ability to balance these demands will also get the confidence that SKTF so dearly strives for.
